In a recent interview, American alpine skiing star Mikaela Shiffrin expressed her enthusiasm for competing in the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics. Reflecting on her experiences in Cortina d’Ampezzo, the venue for the upcoming Games, Shiffrin remarked, “I love Cortina in general. It’s been a place where I’ve had a really good feeling on my skis, and I feel comfortable on the track.”
Shiffrin’s history in Cortina is notable; she secured four medals in as many events during the 2021 World Championships held there. Looking ahead to 2026, she stated, “I would make that a goal to get there and to get there in strong form.”
However, the path to the next Olympics has presented challenges. In January 2024, Shiffrin suffered a left leg injury after a crash during a World Cup downhill event on the Olympia delle Tofane course in Cortina. Despite this setback, she demonstrated resilience by returning to competition and achieving significant victories, including her 100th World Cup win in February 2025.
As the 2026 Winter Olympics approach, Shiffrin’s commitment and past successes in Cortina position her as a formidable contender on the world stage.
