Lindsey Vonn, the renowned American alpine skier, is mourning the loss of her cherished dog, Lucy. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Vonn shared, “Today my sweet, sweet Lucy left us. 9 years ago she came into my life, and from the very first moment until the very last, she brought so much light and love to me and everyone she met.”
Lucy was more than a pet to Vonn; she was a constant companion through numerous adventures, including travels around the world, skiing, hiking, and even attending the Olympics. Vonn reminisced about their time together, stating, “We traveled the world together, skied, hiked, biked, explored, went down waterfalls, up in air balloons, to the Olympics… we went on SO many incredible adventures together.”
Fans and fellow athletes have rallied around Vonn, offering messages of support during this difficult time. NBA champion Kevin Love, Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps, and tennis star Coco Gauff are among those who extended their condolences. The outpouring of sympathy underscores the deep bond Vonn shared with Lucy and the impact of her loss.
This is not the first time Vonn has faced such heartbreak. In January 2022, she mourned the passing of another beloved dog, Bear. Reflecting on that loss, Vonn expressed, “I lost my best boy almost 2 years ago now… still hurts like hell. Dogs are angels, here and in heaven.”
Despite these personal challenges, Vonn continues to demonstrate resilience. Recently, she returned to competitive skiing, placing 20th in her first training run at the Alpine Skiing World Championships in Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Austria. Her new titanium knee held up well, and she found the course reminiscent of her early days skiing in Vail.
As Vonn navigates this period of grief, the support from her fans and the athletic community serves as a testament to the profound connections we share with our animal companions and the collective empathy that binds us during times of loss.
