Emma Raducanu passes heartbreaking news to fans ahead of major tournament next week

Emma Raducanu has announced her withdrawal from Great Britain’s squad for the upcoming Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers against the Netherlands and Germany, scheduled from April 10 to 12 in The Hague. This decision comes after her impressive run to the quarter-finals at the Miami Open, marking her best performance since her 2021 US Open victory. During her quarter-final match in Miami, Raducanu required medical attention for leg and back issues, highlighting ongoing fitness concerns.

In light of these physical challenges, Raducanu and her team have decided to prioritize her recovery by undertaking a short training block in the UK over the next two to three weeks. This period will focus on managing her physical health and preparing for the upcoming clay court season, including the French Open starting on May 25.

British team captain Anne Keothavong expressed understanding of Raducanu’s decision, acknowledging the impact of her absence but expressing confidence in the remaining team members: Katie Boulter, Sonay Kartal, Harriet Dart, and Olivia Nicholls. A fifth player will be named soon to complete the squad.

Raducanu’s withdrawal underscores the importance of managing her physical well-being to ensure sustained performance throughout the demanding tennis season.
