Overall ski champion Brignone breaks leg in crash with home Olympics approaching

Italian ski champion Federica Brignone has suffered a major setback just months before the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina. The 34-year-old, who won the overall World Cup title in 2020, broke her leg in a serious crash during a training session in the Italian Alps.

Brignone was preparing for the final stretch of the ski season when she lost control at high speed, resulting in a violent fall. She was immediately airlifted to a nearby hospital, where doctors confirmed a fracture in her right leg.

“This is a devastating injury for Brignone, especially with the Olympics on home soil just around the corner,” said an Italian Ski Federation spokesperson. “We will provide her with the best medical support and rehabilitation possible.”

Brignone, one of Italy’s most decorated skiers, had been considered a strong contender for multiple medals at Milan-Cortina 2026. Her injury raises questions about her ability to recover in time for what was expected to be her final Olympic appearance.

Fans and fellow athletes have flooded social media with messages of support, urging her to stay strong during recovery.

More updates on Brignone’s condition and potential return to competition will follow as details emerge.
