RIP Ellie Curtis: 25-Year-Old Skier Dies at Palisades Tahoe

Ellie Curtis, a former ski racing champing at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, passed away at Palisades Tahoe, California on Saturday, April 5, 2025.

The incident occurred on Ah Chute, a challenging trail on Palisades’ famous KT-22 lift. Curtis was skiing with old friends and new, including myself. Ski patrol responded to the scene within two minutes, but Curtis ultimately passed away from her injuries.

Dartmouth College and Curtis’ hometown of Waitsfield, Vermont are reeling from the loss, and are paying tribute to her memory. Dartmouth remembers Curtis as, “an exceptional member of the Dartmouth family whose spirit, compassion, and drive left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered.”

A memorial service is currently being planned at Dartmouth. More details to come.

As a primary witness to the accident, I’d like to extend my heartfelt condolences to Ellie Curtis’ friends, family, and loved ones. It’s no secret that she was beloved by dozens of people across the country.

I’d also like to commend the members of Palisades Tahoe ski patrol who acted professionally, promptly, and efficiently to attempt to save Ellie’s life. They did everything they could, and it was inspiring to watch.

RIP Ellie Curtis.
