Retired alpine skiing legend Lindsay Vonn has sent shockwaves through the winter sports world with a bold and heartfelt promise: to return to the 2026 Winter Olympics in a new and inspiring role.
In a recent interview, the Olympic gold medalist revealed her intention to participate in the Games — not as a competitor, but as a coach and mentor for the next generation of U.S. skiers.
“I’ve always said the Olympics are more than just a competition — they’re a celebration of passion, perseverance, and pushing limits,” Vonn stated. “In 2026, I promise to be there not for myself, but to help others reach the podium.”
Vonn, who retired in 2019 after an illustrious career that included 82 World Cup wins and three Olympic medals, has remained active in the skiing world through her foundation and broadcasting roles. Her new goal, however, marks a deeper involvement with Team USA.
She also hinted at working on a documentary-style series that will follow her journey with the Olympic hopefuls, shedding light on their struggles, triumphs, and the preparation behind the scenes.
With the 2026 Winter Olympics set to take place in Milan-Cortina, Italy — a country close to Vonn’s heart — fans around the globe are eager to see how her promise unfolds.
“Coaching is a new challenge for me,” Vonn said, “but if I can help just one athlete believe in themselves and succeed, it’ll be worth it.”
