One of the most decorated alpine skiers in history, Lindsey Vonn, has officially bid farewell to the sport she helped define. In an emotional social media post, Vonn reflected on her remarkable career and the journey that took her from a young girl with a dream to a global icon on the slopes.

“Skiing has been the love of my life,” Vonn wrote. “It’s given me purpose, strength, and unforgettable memories. Though it’s hard to say goodbye, I know it’s time to turn the page and start a new chapter — and I do so with a heart full of gratitude.”

Vonn, 40, retires with a staggering record: 82 World Cup victories, 3 Olympic medals, and 4 overall World Cup titles, making her one of the greatest alpine skiers of all time. Her fearless racing style and resilience in the face of injury earned her admiration around the world.

Tributes have poured in from athletes and fans alike. Fellow Olympian Mikaela Shiffrin called her a “pioneer and inspiration,” while others praised her for breaking barriers in a male-dominated sport.

Although retired from competition, Vonn hinted at future involvement in the sport, possibly through coaching, commentary, and advocacy for women in athletics.

Her legacy, both on and off the slopes, is sure to inspire generations to come.
