A young man has died following what authorities are calling a “tragic incident” at a popular ski resort in British Columbia.
The incident occurred Tuesday afternoon at Whistler Blackcomb, one of Canada’s busiest and most well-known ski destinations. According to the RCMP, the man — whose identity has not yet been publicly released — was involved in a serious accident on one of the mountain’s advanced trails.
Emergency crews responded quickly, and ski patrol administered immediate first aid on the scene. The man was airlifted to a nearby hospital but was later pronounced dead.
“Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the individual involved,” the resort said in a statement. “We are fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation and offering support to our staff and guests during this difficult time.”
RCMP say foul play is not suspected and that the incident appears to have been an unfortunate accident. The coroner’s office is now conducting a full investigation to determine the exact cause of death.
Skiers and snowboarders at the resort have expressed shock and sadness, with many sharing condolences online.
This is a developing story. More details will be provided as they become available.
