Five Skiers Found Dead, One Missing in Swiss Alps Tragedy

A tragic skiing expedition turned deadly in the Swiss Alps as authorities confirmed the deaths of five skiers, with one person still missing. The group, consisting of six individuals, went missing over the weekend during a ski tour near the Matterhorn mountain range.

According to local police, search and rescue teams were dispatched after the group failed to return as scheduled. Harsh weather conditions, including heavy snowfall and poor visibility, severely hampered the rescue operation.

After two days of intense searching, five bodies were discovered buried under deep snow. The sixth skier remains unaccounted for, and the search is ongoing.

Authorities have not released the identities of the victims but confirmed that all were experienced skiers and part of a guided backcountry tour. Avalanche risks in the region were reported to be high due to recent storms.

“This is a heartbreaking incident,” said a spokesperson from the Valais cantonal police. “We extend our deepest condolences to the families and are doing everything possible to locate the missing skier.”

The tragedy has renewed concerns about safety in high-risk alpine areas, especially as climate patterns continue to make mountain weather increasingly unpredictable.

Further updates will follow as the search continues.
