The skiing world is mourning the tragic loss of rising star Margot Simond, the reigning U18 Slalom Champion, who died following a high-speed crash during a training run at Red Bull Alpine Park on Thursday afternoon.

The 17-year-old French prodigy lost control during a technical descent and collided with safety netting at the lower section of the course. Emergency medical personnel were immediately dispatched to the scene, but despite extensive efforts, Simond succumbed to her injuries en route to the hospital.

Simond had emerged as one of the brightest young talents in alpine skiing, claiming the U18 World Slalom title just two months ago and earning widespread praise for her fearless style and razor-sharp technique. Her death has sent shockwaves through the skiing community, with tributes pouring in from fellow athletes, coaches, and fans across the globe.

In a statement, the French Ski Federation expressed “deep sorrow and heartbreak,” describing Simond as “a beacon of hope for the next generation of French skiers.” Red Bull also released a statement expressing condolences to the family and committing to a full investigation into the incident.

Simond’s coach, Luc Morel, spoke tearfully at a press conference, saying, “Margot was more than an athlete — she was a spark of joy, determination, and promise. This is a loss beyond words.”

An official investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the crash and assess the safety measures in place at the training venue.

Margot Simond is survived by her parents and a younger brother. A memorial event is being planned in her hometown of Chamonix, France, where the skiing community will gather to honor her legacy.
