Skier dies after crashing into tree on Cypress Mountain

A tragic accident on Cypress Mountain has claimed the life of a skier after a collision with a tree on Friday afternoon.

Emergency crews were called to the popular ski resort around 2:30 p.m. after reports of a serious incident near one of the intermediate trails. According to Cypress Mountain officials, the skier, a man in his mid-30s, lost control while descending a slope and crashed into a tree at high speed.

Despite immediate response from ski patrol and paramedics, the man succumbed to his injuries on site. Authorities have not released his identity pending notification of next of kin.

“We are deeply saddened by this incident,” said a spokesperson for Cypress Mountain. “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the skier during this incredibly difficult time.”

Weather conditions at the time were reported to be clear, but RCMP and mountain staff are investigating whether speed, terrain conditions, or other factors contributed to the accident.

The trail where the crash occurred has been temporarily closed while the investigation continues. Cypress Mountain remains open, but officials are urging skiers and snowboarders to exercise extra caution.

This marks the first fatality of the season at the resort.
