The legal community is mourning the sudden loss of prominent New York law firm CEO, Jonathan Marks, who was tragically killed in a freak skiing accident over the weekend. He was 52.
According to local authorities in Aspen, Colorado, Marks was skiing on an intermediate slope Saturday afternoon when he lost control, veered off course, and struck a tree. Despite wearing a helmet and receiving immediate medical attention from ski patrol, Marks was pronounced dead at the scene.
Marks, who led the prestigious firm Marks & Lander LLP, was widely respected for his leadership and vision. Under his stewardship, the firm expanded nationally and was recognized for its innovative work in corporate law.
“It’s an unimaginable loss,” said Lauren Kendall, the firm’s managing partner. “Jonathan was not just a brilliant leader; he was a mentor and a friend to all of us.”
Marks is survived by his wife, two children, and a legacy of professional excellence and community service. The firm announced plans for a memorial service later this week and said operations would continue under interim leadership.
Authorities are investigating the incident but have indicated that weather and slope conditions were normal at the time of the accident.
