A British woman has tragically died following a collision with another skier on the slopes of the French Alps, authorities confirmed today.
The accident occurred on Sunday afternoon at a popular ski resort in the Haute-Savoie region. According to local police, the woman, believed to be in her 30s, collided at high speed with a male skier on an intermediate run. Emergency services were quickly on the scene, and despite their best efforts, she succumbed to her injuries at the site.
The male skier, who has not been publicly identified, sustained minor injuries and is said to be cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation. Witnesses reported that the conditions on the slopes were clear at the time of the accident.
French prosecutors have opened a formal inquiry into the incident to determine the exact circumstances leading to the fatal collision. Initial reports suggest that excessive speed may have been a contributing factor.
The British Foreign Office has confirmed it is providing support to the woman’s family during this difficult time. A spokesperson for the ski resort expressed deep condolences, stating, “Our hearts go out to the victim’s family and loved ones. Safety on the slopes is our utmost priority, and we are assisting authorities in their investigation.”
This tragic event comes amid renewed calls for greater enforcement of safety regulations at European ski resorts, especially as the busy spring skiing season continues.
Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
