Brit Skier Found Lifeless at the Bottom of French Alps After Falling 260ft

A British skier has tragically died after falling more than 260 feet while navigating a challenging slope in the French Alps, authorities confirmed on Tuesday.

The 31-year-old man, whose identity has not yet been released, was skiing off-piste near the renowned Mont Blanc region when the fatal accident occurred. Rescue teams were alerted after the skier failed to return to his accommodation and was later found lifeless at the base of a steep drop.

Local authorities say the fall likely happened late Monday afternoon. Conditions on the mountain were reportedly stable, though the terrain in the area is known to be treacherous and requires expert-level skills.

“Despite the rapid deployment of emergency services, the skier could not be revived,” said a spokesperson from the Chamonix Mountain Rescue Unit. “We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.”

An investigation has been launched to determine the exact circumstances leading to the fall. British consular officials are assisting with repatriation arrangements and family support.

The tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with backcountry skiing, especially in high-altitude regions.
