A tragic accident unfolded on the slopes of the French Alps as a British skier lost his life following a high-speed collision with another skier who was reportedly stationary at the time.
The incident occurred on Monday afternoon in the popular ski resort of Les Deux Alpes. According to local authorities, the British man, believed to be in his early 30s, was skiing down a red run when he struck another skier who had stopped at the side of the slope. Emergency services responded quickly, and both individuals were airlifted to a nearby hospital. However, the British skier succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
The stationary skier, a 28-year-old French national, sustained minor injuries and is reportedly in stable condition. Investigations into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing, with ski patrol and mountain police reviewing witness statements and slope surveillance footage.
This incident has raised renewed concerns over slope safety and speed control in busy alpine resorts. Officials have urged skiers to remain vigilant and adhere to safety guidelines to prevent similar tragedies.
The British Embassy in Paris is working closely with French authorities and has offered consular support to the victim’s family.
