“It’s So Unfortunate”: Jon Scheyer Names Two Duke Blue Devils Players Who Almost Landed the Team in Huge Trouble

Duke Blue Devils head coach Jon Scheyer made headlines today after revealing that two of his players were involved in incidents that nearly put the program at risk during the previous season.

In a candid interview with The ACC Network, Scheyer expressed disappointment over what he called “avoidable situations” that could have derailed the team’s progress both on and off the court.

“It’s so unfortunate,” Scheyer said. “These were talented players with bright futures, but their off-court decisions brought unnecessary attention and almost landed the club in huge trouble.”

While Scheyer did not detail the exact nature of the incidents, sources close to the program indicate that they involved minor NCAA compliance concerns and behavioral issues during team travel. Both players, whose names were withheld initially for privacy, were later confirmed to be sophomore guard Marcus Bell and freshman forward Tyrese Coleman.

The coach noted that the university handled the matter internally, with both players facing temporary suspensions and undergoing mandatory mentoring.

“We hold ourselves to a high standard at Duke,” Scheyer added. “Mistakes were made, but they’ve been addressed. What matters now is growth and accountability.”

The Blue Devils, who made it to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen last season, are already preparing for their summer training with a strong incoming class and renewed focus.
