Cooper Flagg Named AP Men’s College Basketball Player of the Year

Cooper Flagg has been named the Associated Press Men’s College Basketball Player of the Year, capping off a sensational freshman season that exceeded the already sky-high expectations placed on the Duke University phenom.

The 18-year-old forward led the Blue Devils to a dominant season, averaging 21.3 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game. His versatility on both ends of the court, paired with his leadership and poise under pressure, made him a standout among his peers and a clear favorite for the prestigious honor.

Flagg’s historic season included multiple triple-doubles, highlight-reel blocks, and clutch performances that solidified his status as one of college basketball’s brightest stars. He becomes the first freshman to win the award since Zion Williamson in 2019, and only the third in history.

“Cooper has been nothing short of phenomenal,” said Duke head coach Jon Scheyer. “He’s brought energy, humility, and elite-level talent every single night. This award is a testament to his hard work and love for the game.”

With the NBA Draft approaching, Flagg is widely projected as the No. 1 overall pick. But for now, he says he’s just grateful. “It’s an incredible honor,” Flagg said. “I couldn’t have done this without my teammates, coaches, and the support of the Duke community.”

As the college basketball world celebrates his achievements, Flagg’s journey appears to be just getting started.
