Skier Dies After Crashing Into Tree on Cypress Mountain

A tragic accident claimed the life of a skier on Sunday afternoon after they crashed into a tree on Cypress Mountain, authorities have confirmed.

According to West Vancouver Police, emergency crews were called to the popular ski resort around 2:30 p.m. after reports of a serious collision involving a skier and a tree along one of the intermediate-level runs. Ski patrol responded immediately and attempted life-saving measures, but the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim, whose identity has not yet been released, is believed to have been skiing alone at the time of the incident. Officials say weather and slope conditions were typical for the season, and an investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances that led to the fatal crash.

Cypress Mountain issued a statement expressing condolences to the skier’s family and emphasizing their commitment to safety. “Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” the resort said.

This marks the first fatality of the 2024-2025 ski season at Cypress Mountain.
