In a shocking turn of events, the Duke Blue Devils men’s basketball team has suffered a major blow as their star player, Jordan Reynolds, has officially walked away from the program, despite personal pleas from head coach Jon Schleyer.
Sources close to the program confirm that Reynolds, a projected top-10 NBA Draft pick and a fan favorite, has accepted a lucrative $4.4 million offer from a professional European team, citing financial security and immediate playing opportunity as key factors.
Schleyer, known for his strong player relationships, made a last-ditch effort over the weekend to convince Reynolds to stay and finish the season, emphasizing team legacy and unfinished business. However, the offer proved too tempting for the 20-year-old phenom.
“This was one of the hardest decisions of my life,” Reynolds said in a statement. “Coach Schleyer has been like a father figure to me, but I have to do what’s best for my family and my future.”
The loss of Reynolds is a significant setback for Duke, which was expected to be a Final Four contender this season. The team will now have to regroup quickly and rely on its depth and leadership to navigate a challenging ACC schedule.
As for Coach Schleyer, he remains focused. “We wish Jordan nothing but the best,” he said. “Our journey continues.”
Stay tuned for further updates as the Blue Devils adjust to life without their star.
