Cleveland Browns Under NFL Investigation for Alleged Recruiting Violations

The Cleveland Browns are under investigation by the NFL amid serious allegations of violating league rules related to player recruitment and tampering, according to multiple league sources.

The probe reportedly centers on the Browns’ recent efforts to sign high-profile free agents during the 2025 offseason, with accusations suggesting the organization may have engaged in unauthorized contact with players under contract, as well as improper use of team personnel during negotiations. Several insiders have cited possible breaches of the NFL’s anti-tampering policy, which strictly prohibits teams from contacting players or agents without permission from their current club.

NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy confirmed that the league’s compliance unit has launched a formal investigation and is gathering evidence, including communications, meeting logs, and financial records tied to recent signings.

This news comes as a surprise to many, as the Browns were widely praised for their aggressive but seemingly strategic offseason moves that brought in several key veterans. However, league sources now believe some of those acquisitions may have involved unapproved incentives or early contact, potentially giving Cleveland an unfair advantage.

The Browns issued a short statement on Friday:

“We are aware of the NFL’s investigation and are fully cooperating. We have always strived to operate with integrity and in accordance with league policies.”

First-year head coach Ken Dorsey declined to elaborate during a press conference but emphasized the team’s focus: “We’ll let the league do its job. Our players and coaches are focused on what’s happening on the field.”

If found guilty, the Browns could face significant penalties, including fines, loss of draft picks, and even personnel suspensions. The investigation is expected to continue over the coming weeks, with a preliminary report anticipated before the start of training camp.

For a franchise trying to rebuild its reputation and finally return to consistent playoff contention, this latest controversy could prove to be a major setback both on and off the field.
