Duke Basketball’s freshman class has lived up to the hype in spectacular fashion. Four first-year Blue Devils—Cooper Flagg, Kon Knueppel, Khaman Maluach, and Patrick Ngongba II—have been named among the NCAA’s Top Ten Best Performing Rookies of the 2024–25 season.
Leading the group is Cooper Flagg, widely regarded as the top recruit in the nation. Flagg has turned in a dominant freshman campaign, averaging 19.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game. His 42-point explosion against Notre Dame in February shattered records and solidified his status as a generational talent.
Kon Knueppel, a versatile guard/forward from Wisconsin, has been one of the most efficient scorers in the nation. He shot over 40% from three-point range while averaging 13.6 points per game, showing maturity and confidence beyond his years.
Khaman Maluach, the 7’2” center from South Sudan, brought size, strength, and defensive presence to the Blue Devils’ frontcourt. Averaging 8 points and 6 rebounds per game with an incredible 76% shooting efficiency, Maluach has been a reliable force in the paint all season.
Completing the quartet is Patrick Ngongba II, who battled back from a high school injury to become a key contributor off the bench. His grit and growth were on display during the NCAA Tournament, particularly in the Sweet Sixteen, where he played a pivotal role in Duke’s win over Arizona.
Head Coach Jon Scheyer praised the group’s work ethic and unity, saying, “These guys came in ready to compete and learn. Their chemistry and hunger to improve have been crucial to our success.”
This recognition not only cements Duke’s recruiting class as one of the best in recent memory but also hints at a bright future for the Blue Devils as these stars continue to grow together.
