In a stunning development that’s sending shockwaves through the college basketball world, former Kentucky Wildcats superstar John Wall is making a major return to the program — this time in a leadership capacity.
The family of current head coach Mark Pope has officially announced that Wall, the iconic point guard and former face of the Wildcats, will rejoin the University of Kentucky men’s basketball organization in 2025 as the Associate Head Coach.
Wall, who starred for the Wildcats during the 2009–10 season before becoming the No. 1 overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft, is expected to bring his wealth of on-court experience, leadership skills, and strong ties to the Kentucky community into the locker room and beyond.
“This is more than just a return — it’s a homecoming,” Coach Mark Pope said in a joint statement with Wall. “John’s deep love for this program, combined with his incredible basketball IQ and leadership, makes him the perfect addition to our coaching staff.”
Fans and former teammates have already taken to social media to express excitement and support, with many calling it a “full-circle moment” for the Wildcat legend. Wall is expected to play a key role in recruiting, player development, and mentoring young guards hoping to follow in his footsteps.
More details, including the official press conference and Wall’s contract terms, are expected to be released in the coming days.
