Kentucky Wildcats standout guard Lamont Butler has announced his decision to undergo a major offseason surgical procedure to address a lingering injury, sources confirmed on Friday.
The rising senior, known for his defensive prowess and clutch performances, has been dealing with discomfort in his right knee since late last season. After consulting with medical staff and family, Butler has opted for arthroscopic surgery to clean up the affected area and ensure he’s at full strength for the upcoming season.
“This wasn’t an easy decision, but it’s the right one,” Butler said in a statement. “I want to be at my best for my teammates and for the fans. Taking care of my body now ensures I can give 110% when the season starts.”
The procedure is expected to sideline Butler for approximately 6-8 weeks, but team doctors are optimistic about a full recovery before preseason training ramps up in late summer.
Head coach Mark Pope expressed full support for Butler’s decision: “Lamont is a warrior, and he’s doing the smart thing for his long-term health and for the team. We’re behind him every step of the way.”
Butler transferred to Kentucky last year after a successful run with San Diego State, quickly becoming a key contributor both on and off the court. His leadership and defensive intensity are expected to play a crucial role in Kentucky’s 2025 title hopes.
Further updates on Butler’s recovery timeline will be provided as he progresses through rehab.
