Mark Pope, Kentucky Wildcats Receive Major Commitment News on Friday Morning

The Kentucky Wildcats and head coach Mark Pope received a significant boost to their 2025 recruiting class on Friday morning as five-star forward Jayden Mitchell officially announced his commitment to the program.

Mitchell, a 6-foot-9 athletic standout from California, made his decision public via a live stream on social media, choosing Kentucky over offers from Kansas, Duke, and USC. Widely regarded as one of the top prospects in the country, Mitchell is ranked No. 6 overall in the ESPN 100 and is expected to make an immediate impact in the Wildcats’ frontcourt.

“I’ve built a strong relationship with Coach Pope and the staff,” Mitchell said during his announcement. “Kentucky’s tradition, fanbase, and the opportunity to develop at the highest level made this the right choice for me.”

This marks the third top-25 commitment for Pope this recruiting cycle, signaling that the Wildcats remain a major force under his leadership despite recent transitions. Pope, who took over the program following John Calipari’s departure, has emphasized player development, spacing, and a high-tempo offensive system.

“This is a big day for our program,” said Pope in a statement. “Jayden is not only an elite talent but also a tremendous young man with a winning mentality. We’re excited about what’s ahead.”

Mitchell is expected to play a key role in revamping Kentucky’s frontcourt, which saw multiple departures to the NBA and transfer portal. His commitment solidifies the Wildcats’ position as a top-3 recruiting class for 2025.

With this major commitment, Kentucky fans have plenty to be excited about as the program charts a new path under Pope’s guidance.
