The University of Kentucky’s storied basketball program is once again making headlines as several current and former Wildcats have made pivotal decisions regarding their NBA Draft futures.
Among the most anticipated announcements, standout freshman guard Jalen Reeves declared for the 2025 NBA Draft after an impressive debut season. Averaging 17.2 points, 5.1 assists, and 3.8 rebounds, Reeves is projected to be a lottery pick and is considered one of the top guard prospects in the class.
Joining him is sophomore forward Tyrone Hayes, who decided to forgo his remaining eligibility after a breakout season that saw him earn All-SEC honors. Hayes is expected to be a late first-round to early second-round pick, with scouts praising his versatility and defensive presence.
In a surprising turn, junior center Malik Doumbouya opted to return for his senior year, citing unfinished business and a desire to chase a national title. “We’ve got something special building here,” Doumbouya said in a statement. “I want to be part of it and grow my game even more.”
Meanwhile, former Wildcats such as Keon Brooks Jr. and BJ Boston, who had previously entered the league, made waves by either entering free agency or participating in pre-draft workouts to gauge interest for a possible return to the NBA spotlight.
Coach Mark Pope commented on the decisions, stating, “We’re proud of all our guys, whether they’re going pro now or continuing their journey here. Kentucky has always been a launchpad for greatness, and this year is no different.”
With the 2025 NBA Draft approaching, Big Blue Nation will be watching closely to see where their stars land—and how the next chapter of Kentucky basketball unfolds.
