Kentucky head coach Mark Pope has expressed strong support and excitement over Otega Oweh’s return to the Wildcats, making it clear that the versatile guard will play a vital role in the team’s plans for the upcoming season.
Speaking to reporters earlier this week, Pope praised Oweh’s decision to return, calling it “a massive win” for the program. “Otega is a dynamic player — his athleticism, defensive intensity, and ability to score at all three levels make him a game-changer,” Pope said. “Having him back gives us leadership and a competitive edge that will set the tone for our season.”
Oweh, who entered the transfer portal after last season but ultimately chose to return to Lexington, is expected to be a cornerstone of Pope’s system. The 6’5″ guard averaged 9.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game last season and is known for his aggressive style and defensive prowess.
Coach Pope emphasized that Oweh’s return is not only a boost on the court but also in the locker room. “He’s committed to this team and to winning. That’s the kind of mentality we need. We’ve had honest conversations about what this year can look like, and he’s all in.”
