The University of Kentucky’s basketball program continues to showcase its dominance, as two of its standout players have been named to the prestigious NCAA Team of the Season.
Sophomore guard Jalen Thompson and freshman forward Marcus Reed earned national recognition for their exceptional performances throughout the 2024–25 college basketball season. The duo played pivotal roles in leading the Wildcats to a Final Four appearance, drawing attention from scouts and analysts nationwide.
Thompson, known for his clutch shooting and leadership on the court, averaged 18.4 points, 5.6 assists, and 2.1 steals per game. His ability to control the tempo and deliver in high-pressure situations made him one of the most valuable players in the SEC.
Reed, the explosive freshman, made headlines with his athleticism and versatility. He averaged a double-double—16.2 points and 10.3 rebounds per game—while also becoming a defensive anchor for the Wildcats. His breakout performance in the NCAA tournament solidified his place as one of the top prospects in the country.
Head coach John Calipari praised both players, stating, “Jalen and Marcus have worked incredibly hard all season. Their growth, maturity, and commitment to the team have been unmatched. I’m proud to see them receive the recognition they deserve.”
This marks the first time since 2017 that two Kentucky players have simultaneously been named to the NCAA Team of the Season, further cementing the program’s status as a powerhouse in college basketball.
With Thompson likely returning for his junior year and Reed weighing NBA draft options, the Wildcats’ faithful are eager to see what the future holds for these rising stars.
