In a heartfelt ceremony at Rupp Arena, the University of Kentucky Wildcats officially retired the iconic jersey number #5 in honor of former basketball legend Terrence Davis, marking a historic moment for one of college basketball’s most storied programs.
Davis, who played for the Wildcats from 2008 to 2012, is remembered for his electrifying performances, clutch plays, and unwavering leadership that helped guide Kentucky to the NCAA Championship title in 2012. His jersey now joins the rafters alongside other all-time greats, cementing his legacy in Wildcat history.
The retirement ceremony took place during halftime of the Wildcats’ game against the Louisville Cardinals, with thousands of fans giving Davis a standing ovation. Former teammates, coaches, and university officials paid tribute to the impact he made both on and off the court.
“This is an incredible honor,” said Davis during his speech. “Wearing the Kentucky jersey meant everything to me. I’m grateful for every moment, every teammate, and every fan who supported us during the journey.”
Head Coach Mark Pope, who coached Davis throughout his college career, praised the former star for his dedication, humility, and passion. “Terrence was the heart of that championship team. He played with grit, grace, and a relentless will to win. He deserves every bit of this recognition.”
Davis becomes the 9th player in Kentucky’s history to have his jersey retired, an honor reserved only for those who left an indelible mark on the program.
