Former NBA All-Star and Kentucky Wildcats legend John Wall is already stirring excitement ahead of the 2025–26 NCAA basketball season. In a recent interview, Wall confidently predicted that the University of Kentucky will be “the team to beat” in the race for the national championship.
The prediction comes as the Wildcats look to rebound from a disappointing 2024–25 campaign that saw them fall short of expectations, exiting the tournament earlier than fans had hoped. However, with a strong recruiting class, key returning players, and renewed energy under head coach John Calipari, Wall believes a turnaround is imminent.
> “This group has the hunger, the depth, and the talent,” Wall said. “They’ve got a chip on their shoulder and that’s dangerous for anyone in their way.”
The Wildcats boast a top-three incoming freshman class, featuring several McDonald’s All-Americans, as well as the return of sophomore standout DJ Wagner and rising star Justin Edwards. Coupled with Calipari’s revamped coaching staff and a tougher non-conference schedule, Kentucky is positioning itself as a serious title contender.
