Former college basketball standout Otega Oweh made headlines this week after confidently naming who he believes is the greatest player in Kentucky Wildcats basketball history — and he did so without a hint of hesitation.
In a recent podcast appearance on Courtside Conversations, Oweh was asked a rapid-fire question: “Who’s the best player to ever wear a Kentucky jersey?” Without skipping a beat, Oweh responded, “Anthony Davis — no question.”
Oweh praised Davis not only for his incredible freshman season in 2012, which culminated in a national championship and multiple individual accolades, but also for how he revolutionized the college game as a dominant two-way force.
“He changed the game,” Oweh said. “Blocking shots, stretching the floor, leading a team full of NBA talent and still standing out — that’s not easy. He’s the best to ever do it at Kentucky in my book.”
The statement quickly gained traction on social media, with fans, analysts, and former players chiming in. While others like Jamal Mashburn, John Wall, and Dan Issel also received honorable mentions in the discussion, Oweh’s confident nod to Davis reignited the age-old debate about Kentucky’s basketball royalty.
Davis, who went on to become an NBA All-Star and Olympic gold medalist, has long been considered a front-runner in such conversations. Oweh’s endorsement adds a fresh voice to the ongoing legacy debate.
When asked if there was any close second, Oweh simply smiled and said, “There’s a lot of legends — but AD’s in a league of his own.”
