Kentucky head coach Mark Pope just secured a game-changing addition to his roster, as former Pitt star Jaland Lowe has officially committed to the Wildcats after withdrawing from the 2025 NBA Draft. The news brings a wave of excitement to Big Blue Nation as Pope continues to reshape Kentucky’s identity heading into the new season.
Lowe, a 6’2″ guard who earned All-ACC Third Team honors last season, averaged 16.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game at Pittsburgh. Known for his court vision, scoring ability, and high basketball IQ, Lowe was one of the top names available in the transfer portal and drew interest from several major programs.
His decision to join Kentucky is a major endorsement of Pope’s leadership and the program’s upward trajectory. In a recent statement, Pope called Lowe “the kind of player who raises everyone around him” and “a catalyst for championship-level basketball.”
Lowe isn’t the only headline addition this offseason. Kentucky also landed Kam Williams, a 6’8” wing from Tulane who shot an impressive 41.2% from three-point range while averaging 9.3 points per game. Together, the duo adds both experience and firepower to a roster already buzzing with talent.
With Lowe at the helm, Pope now has a potential All-American guard to anchor his backcourt. Expectations are rising fast, with the Wildcats now sitting at No. 7 in early preseason polls—a sign that Kentucky could be primed for a deep tournament run in 2026.
This commitment marks another turning point in Pope’s first full offseason at the helm. After guiding Kentucky to the Sweet 16 last year, the former BYU coach is wasting no time building a contender.
As workouts begin and excitement builds in Lexington, one thing is clear: Mark Pope is not just rebuilding—he’s reloading.
