Kentucky Wildcats Announce Player of the Season Award Winner

The University of Kentucky Wildcats have officially named Otega Oweh as the 2024–2025 Player of the Season, celebrating his dominant performances and consistent leadership throughout a standout year.

Oweh, a sophomore guard who transferred from Oklahoma, quickly became the heart of the Wildcats’ squad, averaging 16.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.7 steals per game. His tenacious defense, high energy, and ability to deliver in clutch moments made him a fan favorite and a critical piece in Kentucky’s impressive 27–6 season.

“This means a lot to me,” Oweh said at the announcement. “Transferring to Kentucky was the best decision I’ve made. The support here is unmatched, and I just wanted to give everything I had every night.”

Head Coach Mark Pope commended Oweh’s impact on the team, stating, “Otega brought a fire to this team that lifted everyone around him. He plays with heart, grit, and a winning mentality. This award is well deserved.”

The Player of the Season was selected through a combination of fan votes, coaching staff input, and season-long performance metrics.

With strong buzz around his NBA potential, Oweh is now weighing his options ahead of the 2025 NBA Draft, though he has yet to make a formal decision.

As the Wildcats look ahead to next season, the legacy Oweh leaves — whether for one more year or beyond — is already firmly etched in Kentucky basketball history.
