Trent Noah Could Take On a Bigger Role for Kentucky Wildcats — and Mark Pope Has Already Dropped a Hint Why

Trent Noah may be in line for a significant uptick in playing time this season — and head coach Mark Pope isn’t exactly hiding his excitement about it.

During a recent media session, Pope hinted that Noah’s versatility, work ethic, and basketball IQ have impressed the coaching staff far beyond expectations. “He’s one of those guys who does all the little things right,” Pope said. “He competes, he listens, and he adapts quickly — that’s a rare combination for a young player.”

Noah, a Kentucky native and former standout at Harlan County High School, was known for his deadly outside shooting and high motor coming into college. But according to Pope, it’s Noah’s willingness to embrace different roles that could elevate him in the Wildcats’ rotation.

With Kentucky’s lineup still finding its rhythm early in the season, Noah’s ability to stretch the floor and provide defensive energy may earn him minutes in key situations. Sources close to the program suggest that Pope has been experimenting with Noah in multiple lineups — a possible signal that the freshman is on the rise.

If Noah continues to deliver in practice and make the most of his opportunities, he could soon move from an under-the-radar recruit to one of the Wildcats’ most dependable role players.

As Pope put it, “He’s not afraid of the moment. And that’s exactly the kind of player who thrives at Kentucky.”
